Abstract

This research is entitled Character Education of the Main Character in the Novel Bara by Febrialdi Rusdi as an Alternative Teaching Material in Class XII Vocational High School. This article aims to (1) find out the main character in the novel "Bara" by Febrialdi Rusdi, (2) to explain the relevance of character education in the novel "Bara" by Febrialdi Rusdi, if it is used as teaching material in SMK. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method because the data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, and sentence quotes, and do not prioritize numbers. One of the efforts to develop character education that can be developed is through novel appreciation learning. Literary learning is the novel as a type of literary work that has a function that can create a sense of concern for the work produced by the author. The teaching of novels in schools must be adapted to the needs and conditions of students, in reviewing the novel "Bara" by Febrialdi Rusdi, learning character education in characters and their relevance as teaching materials in SMK is an interesting and important research. Character education is a process of forming human character, character education aims to improve the quality of implementation and educational outcomes that lead to the achievement of character and ethical formation of students as a whole and integrated.
