Abstract

One way to improve the student’s speaking skill by giving Role-play as a form of English learning activities in the class. Barkley (2004:p.150) says that Role-play is a situation create where student act out or take character or their identity usually does not assume to achieve learning goals. The Role-play is very important in teaching English because students will practice communicating in a social role. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of role play method , improving learning outcomes, as well as  the advantages and disadvantages of role play methods in senior high school. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach. Subjects in the study are the tenth-grades students that consist of  twenty-six student. This type of research is classroom action research (CAR) with data collection through testing, observation and documentation. These data analysis and data collection activities using two cycles of the first cycle and the second cycle. The data was gathered from test and observation. The average score of test was Cycle 1 50,15. And Cycle ll 58,61. After the implementation of role playing activities in every Cycle, the student's speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students. Average score Cycle 1 was 80,32. It can be concluded that role playing methods can improve students in speaking skill
