Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has diverse traditions and cultures. One of the traditions that is still preserved today is the Karo ceremony held by the Tengger Tribe in Tosari Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. The Karo ceremony is a Tengger Tribe community Day Which is the second largest ritual after the Kasada ceremony. This study aims to find out what denotative meanings, connotative meanings and myths are believed by the Tengger Tribe of Tosari Village in the Karo ceremony. This study used descriptive qualitative method. To obtain data, researchers used interview techniques and literature study, namely by recording documents or archives that are closely related to the research objectives. The results of this study indicate that in the Karo ceremony there are denotative and connotative meanings in the ceremonial procession. While the myth of the Karo ceremony includes the belief of the Tengger Tribe on Karo Day to return humans to purity and simplicity, namely Satya Yoga. In addition, as gratitude to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa and to honor the form of the ancestors of the Tengger Tribe who opened their territory, namely Joko Seger dan Roro Anteng.
